Transforming inspection programs with enterprise asset intelligence

Organisations with mission-critical assets know that in order to make smart decisions about their operations they need a complete and accurate picture of the condition, state and history of all their assets, across the enterprise. Routine asset inspection programs and maintenance activities offer the ideal opportunity to capture this critical data. However, despite the proliferation of enterprise asset management systems [EAM’s] and computerised maintenance management systems [CMMS’s], many companies fall short when it comes to integrating this intelligence into strategic, tactical and operational decision making. Should you rip-out, re-write or re-invent your legacy enterprise asset management system?

Deloitte’s just released their annual technology predictions for 2016 which focuses on 8 trends likely to disrupt business over the next few years. Whilst much of the report concentrates on futuristic technologies, what is most interesting, is that this year, one trend was dedicated to the coal-face challenge of modernising and extending the value of legacy systems.

An example relevant for our clients is legacy enterprise asset management systems [EAM’s], computerised maintenance management systems [CMMS’s] and enterprise resource planning systems [ERP’s]. Digital analyst GSMA Intelligence’s real-time device tracker estimates that there are now more than 7.28 billion active mobile connections globally compared to 7.20 billion humans as per the US Census Bureau’s world population clock. What is more, these gadgets are multiplying 5 times faster than we are.
